Is a fair question to ask of an independent oil and gas company when the industry's center of gravity is squarely in Texas and Louisiana.
Traverse City is located in the Northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Michigan has experienced varying degrees of oil and gas
production since the 1920's. By the 1970's and 80's a couple prospective geological trends were discovered that enticed several major
oil companies to locate field offices in the State.
Their choice of location for these offices was Traverse City due to its quality of life, and proximity to the action. Where the majors
lead independents soon followed, and in short order a booming oil and gas sector had developed in what is an area primarily known for
agriculture and tourism.
Howard's interest in the Michigan Basin, the energy industry presence, and the quality of life resulted in it opening an office in
Traverse City in 1984.
While the industry has downsized considerably in Michigan over the last two decades Howard continues its interest in Michigan oil and
gas opportunities, and its appreciation of the Traverse City area as an excellent location for its employee family.
